Cloisonne
Enamel Jewelry
The Cloisonne enameling
technique begins with cutting a design out of a fine silver
sheet. Then thin flat wires of fine silver are bent and cut
to create a design of lines. These lines are fused to the
metal base forming cells. These cells (Cloisonne) are filled
with enamel. Enamel is a finely ground glass that comes in
a variety of colors. The enamel is applied in several thin
layers of many colors to create shading. Each piece is fired
up to eight times at 1400 degrees Fahrenheit. When the Cloisonne
process is complete, the piece is set in silver.
