Wood & Linoleum Block Printing
The art of relief printmaking has been practiced for many generations. Artists have used a variety of materials to create images using a two step process. The image is first carved into a block and then pressed into paper. The creative process begins on paper, giving me the opportunity to make changes to the design. Next, I transfer the design to the wood or linoleum block and then use a variety of cutting knives to carve the image into the block. When I am satisfied with the result I roll ink onto the block with a tool called a brayer. After the block is well inked, I lay paper on the inked image. Then, I press a baren, a round disk tool in a circular motion on the paper. The ink is then transferred to the paper and a print is created. Multiple colors are acheived using several blocks, each inked with a different color. Additionally, I sometimes paint with water colors and acrylics to enhance the final appearance of the print. I very much enjoy the process of relief print making and hope you will enjoy the result.

All of my prints are individually printed and colored using water colors.
